What We Do

and Who Helps Us.

SHADOW TOWN

HER STORY THEATER creates original plays based on Chicago lives that reflect national concerns. We are a theater for social change.

Our Mission, through theater and the written word, is to shine bright lights in dark places on women and children in need of social justice and community support.

We believe that if made personal, our audiences will respond to the social issues presented and take action.

HST partners with organizaitons. We educate and advocate.

Our focus has been on homelessness for women, domestic sex trafficking of minors, violence, antisemitism and racism.

We provide yearly main stage productions; our local and national Side Show series for professionals, educators and youth in raising awareness on domestic sex trafficking of minors; our Educational Outreach program on Child Exploitaion; and our Chicago Writers Exchange representing any genre or gender focused on social issues of today and historical.

Our scripts are available. GLOSS OVER on women's homelessness, SHADOW TOWN, THE JOHNS, MONEY MAKE'M SMILE for youth and MONGER, all on different perspectives and aspects of domestic sex trafficking in America; and INVISIBLE an exploration on nationalism, racism and antisemitism set in the 1920s.

We are a grassroots professional theater company with the support of field volunteers and paid professional artists who give their time and talent to ensure our success.  We are a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation.
